E-commerce giant Amazon will phase out its food delivery in India from 29 December in a bid to cut companies losing business.
The move comes amid the company announcing it would lay off some 10.000 workers worldwide.
Notably, on Thursday Amazon announced it would be shutting down its Amazon Academy platform in India, created at the top of the world’s online education system early last year amid a boom in virtual learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company said it will no longer offer Amazon Meals, a service it had been testing in Bengaluru, a southern Indian city.
‘As part of our annual operating planning review process, we have made the decision to discontinue Amazon Food, our pilot food delivery business in Bengaluru,’ an Amazon spokesman said in a statement.

An uncertain macroeconomic environment has triggered the e-commerce giant to review Amazon’s global workforce, as the company plans to lay off about 10.000 staff in business and technology positions, Reuters reported last week.
The company had originally launched Amazon Food in Bengaluru.
