X/Twitter Introduces Audio/Video Calling Option

X, formerly known as Twitter, has officially launched audio and video calling features. This marks a notable transformation for the social media platform, expanding its functionality beyond a micro-blogging platform.

The introduction of these communication tools is part of X’s ongoing evolution under the helm of Elon Musk’s vision of making X the ultimate “everything app”. Musk recently hinted that these features would soon become accessible to all users.

The audio and video calling features are currently available on iOS devices, particularly for those subscribed to X Premium (Twitter Blue). Users can make calls within the Direct Message (DM) menu without the need to exchange phone numbers, streamlining the communication experience.

To activate audio and video calling, users need to navigate to the app settings, tap on ‘Privacy and Safety,’ and select ‘Direct Messages.’ Within this menu, a toggle named ‘Enable audio and video calling’ is available. Once activated, users can choose who they are comfortable receiving calls from.

This expansion of X’s capabilities signifies a shift, transforming the platform into more than just a place for written posts. As X continues to grow and innovate, it will be interesting to see how this new feature shapes the future of social media communication. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development.
