Innovation with Purpose: CatalyX Champions Series Awards Celebrates 2023 Winners

What connects a hospitality industry innovator, a creator of emergency tech education programs, and a professional networking pioneer? They’re all winners of the 2023 CatalyX Champions Series Awards, a program that recognizes professionals who not only excel in their fields but drive meaningful social change through technology.

2023 Winners

Lorraine-Copes earned the Best Leader award, drawing on two decades of executive leadership in hospitality procurement. Her current roles as entrepreneur, board member, and industry consultant continue to shape procurement practices across global hospitality brands.

Mich Turner, founder of LITTLE VENICE CAKE COMPANY, secured the Best Community Impact award. A published author and qualified Food Scientist, Turner has transformed industry standards through her seven internationally recognized books and continued leadership in culinary education.

The Serial Entrepreneur Leader award went to Christina Liessem, whose unique blend of German precision and innovative thinking has reshaped multiple business ventures. Her commitment to nurturing emerging talent has created lasting impact across the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Of particular note is Yanina Shynhelska’s recognition for Outstanding Contribution to Education & Mentorship. As a QA engineering expert and educator, Shynhelska has fundamentally transformed tech education accessibility. Since launching her career in 2020, she has established herself as a leading quality assurance specialist at international companies including Avenga, where she drives software quality standards and implements advanced testing methodologies.

During 2022-2023, Shynhelska developed and led the “Practice of Software Testing” course at Quality Assurance Group, creating a comprehensive curriculum that bridges theoretical foundations with real-world project experience. Her most impactful initiative, however, emerged in response to the Ukrainian crisis – a free software testing education program for displaced individuals. This program has opened new career paths in tech for those who lost their jobs and homes during the conflict.

Shynhelska’s teaching approach reflects her deep understanding of today’s tech industry demands. She developed a methodology that enables students to master not just technical skills, but also develop the critical thinking essential for quality assurance roles. Her program emphasizes practical experience, portfolio development, and interview preparation – crucial elements for breaking into tech. She continues to expand these educational initiatives, focusing on helping entry-level professionals build successful IT careers.

Expert Jury Panel

The international jury included venture capital veterans and tech industry leaders: Remus Radvan, Venture Partner at Wayra; Hannah-Mei Andrews from Climate VC; Carlota Armero, Seed Investor at Partech; and Anton An, Lead Frontend Engineer at Hiveon.

Industry Impact

The CatalyX Champions Series Awards goes beyond recognition – it’s shaping new standards in the tech industry. This year’s winners exemplify how professional excellence can drive positive social change, demonstrating that success in technology isn’t just about innovation – it’s about creating meaningful impact.

The awards highlight a growing trend in tech: the convergence of professional achievement with social responsibility. Each winner’s story shows how individual initiative and expertise can transform both industries and communities.
