How to update WordPress from Dashboard

Updating WordPress from the dashboard is a straightforward process. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Your Dashboard: Access your WordPress admin dashboard by entering your website’s domain followed by “/wp-admin” (e.g., “yourwebsite.com/wp-admin”) in your browser’s address bar. Log in with your admin credentials.
  2. Check for Updates: Once logged in, look for the “Dashboard” menu on the left-hand side. If there are available updates for WordPress, themes, plugins, or translations, you’ll see a notification in the “Updates” tab under the “Dashboard” menu. Click on “Updates.”
  3. View Available Updates: On the “Updates” page, you’ll see a list of available updates for WordPress core, themes, plugins, and translations.
  4. Update WordPress Core: To update the WordPress core, click the “Update Now” button next to the message “An updated version of WordPress is available.” WordPress will begin the update process.
  5. Update Themes and Plugins: Below the WordPress core update, you’ll see a list of themes and plugins that have updates available. You can select individual items or use the “Select All” option to update everything at once. Then, click the “Update Themes” or “Update Plugins” button.
  6. Review and Confirm: WordPress will start the update process for the selected items. You’ll see a progress bar indicating the update status. Once the updates are complete, you’ll receive a confirmation message.
  7. Check Site Functionality: After updating, visit your website and navigate through its pages to ensure everything is working as expected. Occasionally, updates might cause compatibility issues.
  8. Update Translations: If your site uses translations, you can update them by clicking the “Update Translations” button if available.
  9. Clear Cache: If you use a caching plugin or service, consider clearing the cache to ensure visitors see the updated version of your site.
  10. Backup Your Site: It’s always a good practice to back up your website before performing updates, especially major ones. This ensures you have a restore point in case something goes wrong.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to update your WordPress website directly from the dashboard, helping to keep your site secure and up-to-date.
